Adapting to Online Poker
Even when you are good at playing poker at brick and mortar poker rooms, engaging online poker playing experiences will take some adjusting. This is because several aspects of the game are quite different with online poker compared to offline version of the game. Here are several aspects you need to understand about online poker before you start playing online.
First of all, you can’t really read tells when you play online. The only way you can catch tells emitted by your opponents is by placing probe bets and paying close attention to their betting patterns. This is the first thing you need to adjust to; get used to reading betting patterns of your opponents in order to stay ahead of the game.
Betting must also be approached differently when you play online. The first thing you will notice right away about online poker players is their betting pattern; they are generally braver and more of risk takers when it comes to placing bets. You will regularly see pre-flop all-ins when playing online. Make sure you stick to your risk management strategy in order to avoid unwanted bad beats.
Last but not least, make sure you can adjust to the new poker playing environment. Since you are playing online, you will be playing from the comfort of your house. You need to get used to maintaining focus while playing from home if your primary goal is to stay profitable in poker. Other adjustments may still be required, but other than these three you have nothing to worry about.
