I have to say, my personal favorite poker term is “on tilt”. Being on tilt means you are playing emotionally or under heavy stress. It is exactly the kind of situation you want to avoid if you want to stay profitable playing poker.

When you are on tilt, it is extremely hard for you to make cool, calculated, decision. This is because you are simply under heavy emotional stress and you are acting emotionally instead of logically. It is only expected that you make a lot of bad calls and lose even more money in the process.

The best way to go when you realize that you are on tilt is to leave the game and refresh. If you are on tilt after a series of bad beats, you need to reassure yourself that all the previous losses can be recovered later on. Simply walk away and refresh before you return to the table and continue playing. You can even call it a day and get some rest in order to cool down and remove all those emotional clouds.

Don’t get me wrong, you can also be on tilt after a series of large victories. You may feel invincible, leading you to calling bets even when you know you have nothing to play. This is why understanding the hazards of being on tilt and knowing how to exit the game when you are in that state essentially important. You can easily avoid losing your hard earned winnings by knowing how to exit the game.
